International Birth and Wellness Project (IBWP) certified childbirth educators (CBEs) seek to help all women experience birth’s transforming power with respect and dignity, support, and confidence. CBEs empower women and their families to choose what is best for them by informing them of their options surrounding labor and birth. IBWP trained CBEs have a holistic perspective of birth, and view birth as a women-centered process. My goal as an IBWP-trained CBE is to help women reclaim trust in their ability to safely and dependably give birth. During this 8 wk course, pregnant mothers and their birth partners will learn about the birth process as a normal and natural event. Although we will focus on natural pain relief methods, such as movement and positions for each stage of labor and birth, visualization techniques, relaxation techniques, and other comfort measures, all forms of pain relief during labor and birth and medical and non-medical interventions will be discussed so that parents can make confident and informed decisions that fit their needs during birth. Techniques learned are applicable to birth in all birth settings: hospital, birth centers, and home. We will discuss the anatomy and physiology of birth, the stages of labor and birth, the roles of caregivers and support people during birth (particularly birth partnersa and doulas), fears about pregnancy and childbirth, and how to know when "it's the real thing!". We will also touch on nutrition, breastfeeding and postpartum care of the mother and baby.
Classes run from 2 - 2 1/2 hours and meet consecutively for 8 weeks. Tuition is $275/couple and includes the textbook and handouts. Need-based sliding scale, payment-in-kind, and payment plans are offered as well.

Make Our Chapter Your Chapter! September Monthly Meeting
Please join us as we share an open discussion to get to know each other better and make plans for where to take our chapter next. We have had a great start since April and now it is time to really get down to business to decide what we want this chapter to be about, which issues are really important to us and how we can all make it happen together!
If you are already a member of our chapter, please attend this meeting because your input and participation is really needed. If you are not, please feel free to join us as this will be a great meeting to help you decide if this chapter is a group you would like to make your own.
Please note- family members of all ages are welcome.

July 2nd: Rained out booth

The good news is that the thunderstorms cleared up just before the market and we did have information out and enough faithful market go'ers around today. Thanks for braving the thunder storms and coming to market! I'm going to attempt to upload the content of our handout with some upcoming events to the blog in the next day.

Unfortunately our 'booth' was cancelled due to threats of lightning and muddy conditions at the Farmer's Market. Usually we are 'rain or shine' but because the majority of our partners were coming from neighboring towns and bringing young children we decided to pull the booth. Thanks so much for everyone that planned to come only to have things cancelled last minute- and for so many offers to help out.

We may be able to reschedule in July but our next booth will be on August 6th!

2009 Natural Child Collaborative: An Introduction

This summer the Natural Child Collaborative will host the Plymouth Farmers' Market on the first Thursday of the month from 2:30 – 6:30 at Stephen’s Field in Plymouth, MA. The Natural Child Collaboration is a partnership of local parents & organizations supporting our children, naturally!

Each month the Natural Child Collaborative will have representatives from local organizations that celebrate natural family living, such as La Leche League, BirthYear Network, and the Holistic Moms Network. We will offer babywearing demonstration, vendors will sell handcrafted items for children and families, and there will be activities for young children. Please come and join us at the Plymouth Farmers' Market this summer!

The Natural Child Collaborative is looking for:

Local vendors that sell handcrafted items for children and families. Local nonprofit organizations that provide information and support for families. Sponsors to help us create a family friendly space at the Plymouth Farmers' Market.
